2Tall Animation got in touch with me to create some monstrous versions of rival mascots for University of Virginia. I designed some gruesome versions of these characters ranging from the William & Mary Tribe’s Griffin to Virginia Tech’s Hokie Turkey mascot.
After the character-design process, I got to bring these creatures to life to receive a total pasting from Virginia Athletics
mascot, The Virginia Cavalier. This project was an absolute treat to work on and I could not recommend working
with 2Tall Animation more.

I was asked to create 7 short animations with framing that could work both for an extra-wide screen and regular 16x9 for social media. The animations were all played pre-game on VA’s enormous stadium screen. I also produced a series of character concept designs for each monster. Full credit goes to Greg Walter (Creative Director) who sketched up the clunky-robot Turkey for the final video. One of my fav designs!
I start every project from my sketchbook so I can anchor my digital work in these original, energetic sketches. I feel like a bit more of ‘me’ is in the work I create this way that doesn’t seem to translate when I start working from my iPad or Cintiq. It’s always a lovely excuse to drink a bunch of batch-brew coffee at my favourite cafe down the road!
Here's a few of the concept and character design pieces I created for 2Tall. My go-to approach at the moment is to mostly focus on silhouettes and then bring out a few clear details of the character. I try to go for a 70/30 balance of light and shadow on my figures these days.
The screen at the VA Stadium is no joke!
